A mat is much more important than the sleepingbag when it comes to warmth.
This version of the downmat 9 was discontinued by exped in 2019.
At 1 1 2 lbs the wider mat is a little heavier than i would normally use if i was by myself.

This particular mat also takes up quite a bit of space in your pack and is fairly hefty considering it isn t even a 4 season winter mat.
I give 4 stars for the reason below.
The dowmat maintains a 3 5 inch barrier of warm air between the snoozer and the cold ground with 8 8 oz of 700 fill goose down insulation.
If you want even more warmth i suggest the downmat ul 7 m which weighs less at 575 grams due to much lighter shell fabrics but is filled with 170 grams of 700 fill power down and has an r value of 5 9 and a temperature rating of 24c.

The downmat lite 5 is less noisy and slippery than expeds synthetic mats such as the exped synmat ul 9 but i wouldn t say that they are the quietest sleeping pads on the market.
I don t think it is possible to have a mat that is too warm when sleeping in the high country.
